It spoilt my time in London.
Positive: The house and each of the rooms is fairly big.
There's complimentary tea and ground coffee in the kitchen, but the state of the kettle (see below) left me not feeling like I wanted to drink any of it.
There is a working washing machine, but it was dirtied with brown goop (hopefully a chocolate bar left in someone's pants pocket, and nothing else). This is despite the cleaning staff having done their routine cleaning and checking before I stayed there.
Negative: The shower pane of the bathtub was loose, and it swung open wildly in the middle of our showers. It required professional tools to fix back in place. Thus, with no grab rails or safety fixtures, and the constantly leaking tub and wet floor, the bathroom was a hazard to navigate.
The property owner had prior knowledge (by their admission, see attached screenshot) that the bathroom of the apartment was not fit for use, and they not only did not notify us, but did not bother to fix it before we moved in, which put our safety at risk.
Because we struggled to shower safely, we were forced to acquire another accommodation on an emergency basis. I asked for a refund, and was given an insulting offer by the property owner 42 GBP (for a booking of more than 500GBP)
Other negative things that were not as significant as the above:
- The kettle was extremely calcified, so white chips and fragments kept appearing in our boiled water.
- Since there's no dryer, you have to use the drying rack for your wet clothes, and that had a rung that was broken.
- The stairs are very steep and precarious, and this apartment is on the top of the building on the third floor.
- We experienced loud street noise intermittently at night. The walls are also on the thinner side. If you're on the first floor of the apartment, you can hear the neighbours walking/talking in the corridor and also your travel party walking around above you.
- There was a smell of smoke when we first moved in, it took two days to get rid of, but by then we were gone (to our emergency apartment as mentioned above).
- The carpets near the front door are old and matte with dirt and grease and need replacing. You will inevitably have to touch them with your bare skin if you follow their rule of no shoes in the apartment.
- Beds are not super comfy, neither the pillow nor the mattress.
